I see that I have a lot to learn, but I'm quite happy with the result! This is a close-up of the dried fruit of the Sweet Gum Tree, or American Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua). These distinctive, spiky fruits are seed heads commonly found on the ground beneath sweet gum trees in autumn and winter.
